IGA Africa
Data Retention Policy
This policy describes the criteria and standard periods used to retain IGA Africa information.
Effective: 18 October 2026 · Last updated: 18 October 2026
1. How retention is decided
Retention depends on the service provided, the relationship with a participating institution, applicable educational and financial duties, security needs, active disputes, and user requests. A campus may require a longer period for official academic records.
2. Standard operational periods
- Signed-in web sessions: normally 72 hours unless ended earlier.
- Detailed presence history: normally 90 days.
- Platform audit events: normally 365 days, with a minimum operational period of 30 days.
- Support and security records: for the time needed to resolve the matter and establish an appropriate audit trail.
- Account, course, assessment, credential, transaction, and institutional records: while the account or service is active and afterward where required for the educational record, contract, dispute, or law.
- Recordings: only while needed for the stated learning, assessment, review, or appeal purpose.
3. Deletion, anonymization, and backups
At the end of a retention period, information is deleted, aggregated, or anonymized. Account deletion accelerates this process where no overriding duty applies. Append-only financial or usage records may be retained after direct user identifiers are removed.
Residual encrypted backup copies are isolated from ordinary use and expire through normal backup rotation unless preservation is required for security or legal reasons.
4. Questions
Contact iga.africa@keplercollege.ac.rw to ask about a record or request deletion. We may consult your institution where it controls an official educational record.
